SAP Material Flow System (SAP MFS) Efficient material flow control in real time

SAP Material Flow System (SAP MFS) is a fully integrated SAP Extended Warehouse Management (SAP EWM) and establishes direct communication between SAP EWM and a programmable logic controller (PLC).

The use of SAP MFS results in a two-tier system architecture SAP ←→ PLC with maximum SAP integration and simple interfaces. External middleware and subsystems, such as warehouse control computers or material flow computers (MFR), are completely eliminated. This results in lower operating costs, high flexibility and transparency as well as maximum investment protection.

Purpose of SAP MFS

SAP Material Flow Control is used in various areas to ensure that logistics processes run smoothly.

  1. Warehouse management: SAP Material Flow Control enables the efficient management of warehouse stocks, the optimization of storage locations and the control of storage and retrieval processes.
  2. Production logistics: In production logistics, SAP material flow control ensures that production lines are optimally supplied with materials and components in order to minimize downtimes and increase productivity.
  3. Distribution: In the distribution of goods, SAP Material Flow Control supports route planning, shipment tracking and the optimization of transport processes in order to shorten delivery times and reduce costs.
  4. Automation: By integrating automation technologies such as conveyor technology, robotics or automated warehouse systems, SAP material flow control enables high efficiency and accuracy in logistics processes.
  5. Real-time control: SAP material flow control offers real-time monitoring and control of logistical processes in order to be able to react quickly to changes and avoid bottlenecks.

Controlled technologies

By using a material flow control system, a wide variety of technologies can be controlled without middleware. These include, for example

Robotics

AGV

RBG

Conveyor technology

Shuttles

Forklift truck

Key advantages of SAP MFS

Increased efficiency:

SAP MFS optimizes the flow of materials in warehouse and production environments, resulting in shorter lead times, reduced inventory levels and more efficient operations overall.

Cost savings:

By improving the management of material flow, companies can reduce costs by, for example, optimizing energy consumption, reducing labour costs and minimizing bottlenecks.

Improved productivity:

SAP MFS enables better utilization of resources such as conveyors, stacker cranes and vehicles, resulting in increased productivity and higher output.

Real-time control:

The software provides real-time monitoring and control of logistics processes to respond quickly to changes and avoid bottlenecks.

Automation:

SAP MFS integrates seamlessly with various automation technologies to automate material flow and increase the accuracy and efficiency of operations.

Transparency and traceability:

By comprehensively monitoring and documenting the material flow, SAP MFS provides a high level of transparency across logistics processes and enables goods movements to be tracked seamlessly.

Integration with other SAP modules:

SAP MFS is seamlessly integrated with other SAP modules, enabling holistic control of logistics processes and ensuring data consistency between the different areas of the company.
