New construction: Trumpf invests in spare parts logistics with IGZ as SAP EWM general contractor:

35 million euro building should start operation at the start of 2017.

With more than 30,000 materials in storage and more than 1,000 daily shipments, the current central storage in Ditzingen is the mainstay of the global logistics network of Trumpf GmbH + Co. KG. The customer already receives the majority of shipments the next morning. To maximize the availability of spare parts and at the same time minimise the cycle times, the plant will not be redesigned completely. The new logistics centre, with an area of 13,000 square metres and 18 metres high is build directly beside the A 81 motorway. 35 million euros have been invested.

Automatic and manual

The new warehouse control should take the mobility of the range into consideration so that rush orders are given priority. Through a mixture of automatic and manual warehouse processes, it should be possible to react flexibly to fluctuations in orders. A new warehouse administration system on the basis of SAP EWM with direct coupling of the automated warehouse should improve responsiveness. With a parallel flow of data and materials in the entire intralogistical chain, Trumpf also wants to increase transparency in all processes.

20,000 container spaces

Besides an automated small parts storage with more than 20,000 container spaces for fast-turnover parts, a manual shelving rack with four levels for slow-turnover parts as well as different pallet shelves for large and bulky parts should be constructed. 1,700 square metres of office space shall be integrated into the new construction.

Go live at start of 2017

The consultancy and planning company io-consultants GmbH & Co. KG from Heidelberg supports the project as general planner. Trumpf and io-consultants have already worked together before the realisation: In 2012 the consulting company organised the overall strategy, and since 2014 it has been responsible for the fine planning and tendering. The earthworks began in September. The go live for the new spare parts centre is planned for the start of 2017.
