Autonomous AI Control Center for Logistics Centers

Logistics centers are under extreme pressure. The explosive growth in e-commerce is driving delivery volumes to record levels—with high peak loads during events like Black Friday or Prime Day. At the same time, delivery windows are shrinking to just a few hours: same-day delivery is no longer a competitive advantage, but a customer expectation—with zero tolerance for errors.

Added to this are extended operating hours, including 24/7 operations, and a rapidly increasing level of automation—driven by acute labor shortages and the reality of multi-shift operations. The result: control center teams are chronically overburdened. Error rates are rising, throughput targets are being missed, and the operational foundation is beginning to falter.

The human control room alone can no longer be the answer to this structural shift. What is needed is an autonomous, AI-powered control room—one that not only reacts but actively controls, anticipates, and keeps operations on track at all times.

Autonomous AI Control Center

As part of the Smart Logistics Cockpit, IGZ is developing an autonomous AI control center for highly automated logistics centers. Pre-trained AI networks independently manage key control center processes—such as order scheduling, resource planning, and the allocation of docking and staging areas—in real time.

Through the GDPR-compliant integration of sensors—such as camera, vibration, and acoustic sensors—the system continuously captures the actual real-time status in the warehouse, compares it with defined target processes, and achieves maximum utilization and efficiency on this basis.

With a current autonomy level of Level 3, the AI control center autonomously handles all core logistics processes. Employees only intervene during special processes and can focus on strategic objectives. This reduces staffing requirements in the control center by up to 70%, while efficiency, transparency, and process stability increase by up to 10%.

For this innovative achievement, the Autonomous AI Control Center was awarded the German Innovation Award 2026 in Gold—as a solution that transforms complexity into clarity and paves the way for fully autonomous logistics.
