General contractor IGZ integrates new type of paperwrap at Wago
Courageously thinking ahead, creating sustainable benefits.
Sondershausen, Falkenberg, 20.08.2024 // The connection and automation specialist WAGO is expanding its central warehouse in Sondershausen. After laying the foundation stone in autumn 2023, the building cube is now standing on the 35,000 square meter site, into which the steel structures for the automated shuttle, small parts and replenishment high-bay warehouses will be installed by the second quarter of 2024. In addition, the diverse robotics solutions for de- and palletizing, order picking as well as carton erectors and sealers also testify to the high degree of automation that IGZ Automation GmbH is implementing as general contractor in Sondershausen in conjunction with full SAP EWM/MFS integration. The extensive shipping automation completes the zero-touch approach that WAGO pursues, in addition to high sustainability. The latter is reflected in the central warehouse, among other things, in a premiere: as an integrated component of a fully automated logistics system, the PaperWrap solution from EW-Technology is being used at WAGO for the first time in the entire DACH region. IGZ is also connecting this new type of paper wrapper for palletized goods directly to SAP EWM/MFS.
Focus on sustainability
"Sustainability is not an option for WAGO, but a central component of our corporate strategy," explains Diana Wilhelm, Vice President Corporate Logistics at WAGO. "We already attach great importance to recyclable materials, and not just in our product packaging. We also wanted to break new ground in shipping and opted for a paperwrap to reduce our carbon footprint by over 50% compared to stretch film." The paper wrapper works in a similar way to a classic wrapper, but wraps the palletized handling units in special and fully recyclable paper, which is also made from responsibly sourced fibres. IGZ Managing Director Alfred Meyer adds: "The PaperWrap from EW-Technology is the first paper wrapper in the German-speaking world to be integrated into a fully automated logistics system. At IGZ, we have always endeavored to advance our customers' intralogistics projects with new, innovative technologies and solutions. In doing so, we break new ground together with our customers, such as here with WAGO, in order to best meet or exceed their requirements."
