Rittal: Demanding retrofit in going concern with IGZ as general contractor

RITTAL, as part of the Friedhelm Loh Group, is among the international market leaders for cabinet and housing systems. At the Rittershausen site RITTAL operates a factory for large cabinets. 600,000 cabinet housings are produced each year over an area of 153,000m² and a production area of 51,500m².

With a “retrofit” project, the company decided in 2014 to replace the secondary material flow computer with SAP TRM, as well as modernise the pallets material handling. IGZ realised this project as general contractor.

pallet high bay warehouse in Rittershausen

The automated pallet high bay warehouse at the Rittershausen site was commissioned in 1985 and modernised in 2000. In total, 11 pallet stacker cranes incl. extensive pallet material handling are in use there. RITTAL previously used Siemens S5 controls in the plant. As a storage administration system, RITTAL used SAP LES in connection with a proprietary material flow computer. RITTAL commissioned IGZ with a retrofit check in the run-up to the project. The aim of this was to check in more detail the forthcoming modernisation methods, incl. the replacement of the secondary material flow computers with SAP TRM. In this connection, IGZ generated neutral specifications jointly with RITTAL.

After that, RITTAL decided to commission IGZ as general contractor for a comprehensive modernisation of pallet materials handling and the renewal of safety technology. SAP TRM should also be integrated in this context.
