The Recaro Aircraft Seating GmbH & Co. KG will invest about € 13.5 million in the new construction of its logistics centre, which should start production at the end of 2017. The sustained and forecast corporate growth, the process optimisation along the supply chain and an even stronger service orientation to the customer require an expansion of the logistics. The approximately 6,000 square-meter building will arise with the support of IGZ, the SAP EWM general contractor, at the main site in Schwäbisch Hall.
Already in 2014, the decision was made to revamp the logistics of the value-added chain. With IGZ, the well-known manufacturer of aircraft seats teamed up with the necessary competence. After completion of the joint project planning and bidding phase, the Falkenberger SAP partner was awarded the contract for the implementation of the logistics IT based on SAP extended warehouse management (EWM), for the realisation of the entire control technology, as well as for the acquisition of the logistics project coordination.
The logistics centre comprises two automatic warehouses: On the one hand, a small-parts warehouse with 40,000 slots and on the other hand a high-bay warehouse for Euro pallets and box pallets. Project partners for the plant technology are Dambach, Klatt and Galler. The warehouses are complemented with areas for special load carriers, long goods and hazardous substances. In addition, about 1,400 finished seats can be kept to be shipped to customers worldwide. The new logistics centre will be used both for production supply and disposal as well as for distributive tasks. All logistical processes from the goods receipt, storage/retrieval, repackaging processes, via empty container management and sorting, up to picking, quality assurance, packaging and dispatch are depicted with SAP EWM.
The new logistics shall allow Recaro to strengthen the value chain, substantially shorten routes and replenishment time in production and to integrate even more interactively with production and seat assembly. Recaro will thus take an important step to ensure the growth objectives in a very dynamic environment. In that the customers and partners can be supplied punctually and customer desires taken into account even more individually.
